covid-19 misinformation spread

 

March 2020 South Africa went on a 21 days lock-down due to the new disease that was found in November 2019 from china. this virus is called corona-virus,this is a virus that has groups of related RNA viruses that causes diseases. it affects human beings in a form of common cold. this virus has affected many peoples lives, from people losing their jobs,people loving their lives and their loved ones. This has brought a lot of misinformation as people had their assumptions. Therefore this blog will be unpacking the misinformation that people carried since last year and also try to bring solutions.

Social media has a huge impact on peoples daily lives therefore that is how people receive the misinformation that people spread. for months people believed and still believe that the current pandemic we are facing is FAKE and that people are being sold lies just so the government can continue with corruption as the government plays the bigger role in the economy so they can increase opportunities for their corruption. Each and every year the worlds population rapidly increase which leads to the world being over populated, People then manipulated this situation and crossed it over to say that 'this virus is a way of reducing the worlds population'. after the country did not follow the safety precautions that were given by the county's president Mr Cyril Ramaphosa which were 'washing hands,maintain social distance and wearing a masks' the government  then decided  to dig one million graves in preparation to "the county's worst days" south African citizens  misinterpreted the main reason for the graves, they believed that the south African government sold its people to the people in the united states so the graves should be full by the end of the year.

prophesies were spread through out the county that God is taking his people to Jerusalem therefore we should all live by faith because only firm believers are the ones who are gonna make it through.there were videos and memes that were trending about Covid-19 being fake even though people were losing their loved ones.

Misinformation is the one people believe the most and pay more attention to,the last misinformation that we south Africans believed was the fact that his virus was made by white rich people like Bill Gates to reduce the population of black people to be specific. not only did this misinformation touch base on the virus but also racism.this went as far as people saying that president Cyril Ramaphosa  joined an Illuminati club as they shared videos of him wearing the 'Illuminati batch'

With all that has been said, this is proof enough that we black people/ south Africans are not educated enough about the current virus we are facing.we are misusing the resources we have to spread false information while we are supposed to educate ourselves and also educate those who do not have the resources like internet connection. I for one believe that knowledge is power.for someone to grow and gain wisdom they need to allow themselves to learn.
